そして今週、アメリカ合衆国イリノイ州のショーン・モンゴメリ氏により、人気SNS「Facebook」に投稿された驚きのニュースがこちら。

My favorite story so far. An animal shelter posted something along the lines > of "if you are an adult and don't want people to know you are playing pokemon, > we will rent our shelter dogs to you for $5 an hour so it looks like you are walking your dog." Haha, right? Here are some of the results so far:

1. They now have a waiting list of people who want to PAY FOR THE PRIVELAGE OF WALKING A DOG.
2. They have made so much money in "rental fees" that they have waived adoption fees
3. When the people renting the dogs are out walking, the post pictures of themselves playing the game on FB and Instagram. People are then coming to the shelter asking to adopt specific dogs.
4. On at least two occasions, people have called the shelter and said "Hey, i > didn't think I wanted a dog. But me and THIS dog get along REALLY well. I'm not > bringing him back".
5. The shelter currently has no dogs avaliable to rent, and there is a waiting list. Because all of the dogs have been adopted!! They are currently bringing dogs in from a different shelter to be "rented"

（意訳） 今のところ僕の気に入ってる（ポケモンGO関連の）話はこれ。

とある動物保護施設がこんな張り紙をした。 「大の大人がポケモンに熱中して街中を駆け回ってるなんて知られたくない方に、私たちの施設の犬を1時間5ドルでお貸しします。これなら、ただ自分の犬を散歩しているだけに見えるでしょう？」

ハハ、正気？ それでどうなったかは次のとおり。

1. 彼らはもう犬を借りたい人たちの予約待ちのリストさえ手にしている。
2. 彼らはとっくに保護施設の養子縁組手数料を無料にした。莫大なレンタル料があるからね。
3. プレイヤーたちが外で撮ったゲーム中の写真がFacebookやInstagramでシェアされて、同じ犬を借りたい人がつぎつぎ保護施設にやってくる。
4. そして犬を借りたプレイヤーたちはまた保護施設にやってきてこう言う。「まさか自分が犬好きだとは思わなかった！ でも俺とこの犬は本当に相性がいいんだ。返すなんてとんでもない！」
5. 保護施設にはもう犬はいない。今度は彼らが別の保護施設から犬を「レンタル」してるくらいだ。

この投稿がFacebookに掲載されるとたちまち6,000人以上からの「いいね」を集め、さらにはTwitterにも広がり今もなお拡散されています。 ただのゲームが巻き起こしたたくさんの命を救う一大ムーブメント。 今までたくさんの人が莫大な時間とお金をかけて挑んできた「殺処分ゼロ」を、犬とはまったく無関係の「ゲーム」が成し遂げてしまったのです。

日本でも問題となっている犬の殺処分。 一見不純に見えても、崇高な思想はなくても、本当に彼らを救える方法を手段を選ばず探していきたいですね。
